Wayne Pinnock wins Jamaica’s first ever World U20 Long Jump medal

Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock created history by becoming the first Jamaican to win a long jump medal at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships.

The Kingston College standout had a best leap of 7.90 metres to capture bronze behind Cuba’s Maikel Y. Vidal (7.99m) and Japan’s Yuki Hashioka, who won with 8.03m.

The other Caribbean man competing in the event, Shakwon Coke finished 7th with a best of 7.73m. Pinnock, who came into the championships with a personal best of 7.99m, hit the mark on his first attempt then recorded marks of 7.83m and 7.82m.
