Barbadian middle-distance runner Tre Hinds was named NAIA Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week the league announced yesterday.

The Wayland Baptist University senior was recognized nationally after being named Athlete of The Week by the Sooner Athletic Conference on Monday. The recognition came after his performances at the Texas Tech Open held last Friday and Saturday.

The Ashton Hall, Barbados, native finished second in the 800 meters (1 minute, 50.20 seconds, converted to 1:51.46 for track size and altitude) and as part of the distance medley relay (10:21.14, converted to 10:24.5), and anchored the winning 4×400 relay (3:11.37, converted to 3:14.88).

His 800 mark and the mile relay are the fastest in the NAIA this season, while the DMR’s time is fifth-best.

Two weeks ago, Hinds, the Barbados national indoor 600m record holder (1:17.29) and two-time defending NAIA national champion, clocked the NAIA’s top time in the event. He was named SAC men’s track athlete of the week for the performance.

This is the second time Hinds is being named NAIA Athlete of the Week, the first coming in February 2018.

Last season the three-time national champion and 13-time all-American was named USTFCCCA Men’s Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an award given to a national champion in an individual event with the highest cumulative GPA, provided they meet the All-Academic standard.
