There seems to be no limit to what Jamaican hurdles prodigy Shannon Kalawan can do, even the high jump is not off limits to her.

The Saint Augustines University sophomore known for her sprinting skills won the high jump title at the CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships yesterday.

The reigning NCAA Division 2 400m indoor champion cleared 1.58 metres and bagged an important 10 points for the Lady Falcons.

The 400m and 400m hurdles outdoor champion had a clean series of jumps, clearing 1.43m, 1.48m, 1.53m, and 1.58m – all on the first attempts.

This was an hour and a half after clocking the fastest qualifying (56.15 seconds) mark heading into the 400m final and about an hour before also qualifying for the 200m final.

It was the first time she did the high jump for the Lady Falcons but not the first time in her career. She competed in the event for Edwin Allen High School years ago at the class four level.

In case you are wondering, Kalawan is not planning on switching events or adding the high jump to her arsenal. She says she was just bagging important points for her team, who are in position for another title run but trail title contenders Virginia State University 51 – 29 at the end of day one.

The 22 year old competed in the three 5ks and one 6k runs in September and October of last year.
