Jamaican national discus champion Shadae Lawrence makes the move from Kansas to neighboring state Colorado as she transfers from Kansas State University to Colorado State University.
The 2017 NCAA women’s discus champion signed a financial-aid agreement with Colorado State University and will be eligible to compete immediately as a senior for the Rams this upcoming 2018/2019 season.
In her three seasons as a Wildcat, she broke the university’s freshaman and school records as well as the Big 12 Conference discus record with her career-best 62.59 metres set in the conference championships winning performance last season.
She also won the title as a freshman which led to her being named the conference’s Outstanding Freshman of the Year in 2016.
She earned three First-team All-American honours, finishing 4th in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships as a freshman in 2016 and runner-up in 2018.
No female athlete in CSU history has thrown the discus further than Lawrence, as Shelly Greathouse-Borman’s mark of (60.55m) from 1999 stands as the current program record.
The move comes as not much of a surprise considering her former coach at KState Greg Watson, recently took the Assistant Coach Job at LSU.
However, some expected her to follow him to the much more prestigious school.
