Jamaican jumper Odaine Lewis opened his indoor campaign with a massive new personal best to win the long jump event at the Corky Classic a short while ago.

The Texas Tech University senior improved on his previous best (7.80m) by 0.19 metres to win with a best leap of 7.99m, just missing the 8m plateau.

The mark was 0.5m further than his closest competitor, teammate Charles Brown (7.94m).

After fouling on his first attempt, the triple jump specialist surpassed his previous best on his second (7.94m), third (7.89m) fifth (7.99m) and sixth (7.94m) attempts.

The mark takes over the No.1 spot on the NCAA rankings and is tied for the 7th best jump in program history.
