Jamaica’s Michael Stephens clocks a personal best again to advance to the final of the Boys 100 metres at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Stephens finished 2nd in semifinal 2 in 10.22 seconds (WIND: +1.4m/s), which was the same time as the winner Henrik Larsson, which is the Swedish National Junior Record.
It’s a significant personal best for the Calabar High School standout lowering his previous best of 10.30 set in the heats yesterday. Stephens looked relaxed in his run and could have had the victory if he had not eased up at the line.
His time was tied for the 2nd fastest heading into the final after favourite Anthony Scharwz won semifinal 1 in 10.19.
Stephens was the only Caribbean man to compete as the Jamaican national champion Michael Bentley and The Bahamas Joel Johnson did not face the starter.
