Barbadian prodigy Jonathan Jones got his collegiate career off to a strong start winning on debut at the Ted Nelson Invitational inside the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium yesterday.

The University of Texas freshman clocked 46.68 to win the men 400 metres event well ahead of VaSheku Sheriff (47.41).

The mark ranks No.1 in the NCAA this season and makes Jones the No. 8 performer in school history.

Jones, who won three consecutive 800m Carifta gold medals, made the switch to focus on the 400m just last year and made the finals of the IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland.
