Deya Erickson continues record-breaking streak, lowers school and BVI record again

British Virgin Islands’ hurdles prospect Deya Erickson is keeping the record keepers at Cloud County Community College busy.

The BVI native won the 60 meter hurdles event in a new school and national record 8.48 seconds at the Bearcat Invite in Maryville, Missouri yesterday.

This is the third time she has topped the T-Birds record in as many meets. The freshman started her record-breaking streak from the very first meet clocking 8.74 in the heats on her collegiate debut at the Jayhawk Classic in January.

In the final, she romped to victory in 8.51, which broke the BVI national record of 8.63 set by Ariana Forbes in 2010.

Her latest record-breaking mark is the second fastest in the NJCAA this season, only behind Jamaican Demisha Roswell, who clocked 8.45 (converted to 8.47 for altitude) shortly after.
