NCAA Indoors 2019
Jamaican thrower Devia Brown was named National Athlete of the Week for the NJCAA by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Brown was selected as one of the eight athletes who stood out the most from their peers from a busy weekend of collegiate track and field.
The Central Arizona College sophomore recorded the best shot put throw (16.94 metres) in JUCO history, eclipsing the previous record of 16.86m by Grace Apiafi’s (Mt. San Antonio College) in 1990.
Brown becomes the third athlete in CAC program history to earn the National Athlete of the Week honor and the first to do so since 2016.
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to eight collegiate indoor track & field athletes (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and the one NJCAA division that sponsors indoor track & field).
