The Jamaican pair of Orlando Bennet and Damion Thomas both advanced to the final of the Boys 110m hurdles at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Bennet looked the more impressive of the two winning semifinal 2 in 13.45 seconds ahead of Belgium’s Michael Obasuyi (13.49). The Calabar High School standout looked confident jumping out to a fast start and controlled the race before coasting across the line.
After a slow start, Thomas, the World U20 record holder, was beaten into 2nd (13.37) by a fast-charging Jason Nicholson, who surprised many with a massive personal best of 13.32, the fastest time of all qualifiers.
The Jamaicans have the 2nd and 3rd fastest times heading into tomorrow’s final which is slated for 1:00 pm Jamaican time.
