Jamaican distance runner Shanieke Watson this week won her second Sun Belt Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award.
This is the fifth time she’s earned the distinction in her career, a University of Arkansas-Little Rock school record.
The Manchester, Jamaica native was the first place Division I runner, placing second overall in a field of 157 runners at the 2018 Little Rock Invitational last week logging a college best time of 17:38.1 – the 6th fastest 5k time in Little Rock Cross Country history.
The performance improved upon her previous season’s best by 20 seconds and capped off a solid season for the senior where she placed in the top-five in three races, claiming first at the 2018 UCA Cross Country Invitational.
Watson’s performance helped the Lady Trojans to 4th overall at the meet with a score of 135.
Watson was named conference runner of the week on September 12.
